Aging of tires

TIRE AGING
– Proper storage has a positive impact on tire aging.
– Improper storage reduces tire life.
A tire only starts to age when it is used!

STORAGE
Passenger car tires not mounted on rims should be stored in an upright position. They can be stored in a horizontal position for a short period of time, but not longer than 1 month without turning over. Tires mounted on rims can be stored: vertically, horizontally or hanging on the wall.

Ozone-free environment – avoid storing tires:
in direct contact with sunlight near battery chargers or where they may be exposed to welding light near electric motors
Oil products – avoid storing tires:
on dirty floors or in areas where they may come into contact with oil

Cool temperature – tires should be stored:
dry and cool where there is no risk of large temperature differences.
It is directly inappropriate to store tires in steel containers, boiler rooms, outdoors, under metal roofs and the like.
To show that correct storage means that tires do not age, STRO has carried out an independent test at VTI (Väg och Transportforsknings Institutet) in Linköping (Sweden).
This test showed that 3-year-old winter tires had the same properties on ice as new winter tires.
It is therefore a myth that tires are perishable goods and that tires must be brand new when you buy them.
